Spongebob is not a very complex character. But, he does have complex emotions, or maybe he’s just emotional. Though most of the time he is very joyous, if not, few people would want to watch a show about a grumpy sea sponge. First, lets list some back ground info on Spongebob. Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Spongebob Squarepants! (part of the theme song.) He lives in his pineapple with Gary his snail, who meows like a cat. His neighbors are Squidward and Patrick. He works at the Krusty Krab as the frycook, and he loves Krabby Pattys. He is very good at catching jellyfish (with a butterfly net.) Spongebob always wears his brown suit with his red tie and black shoes.

Spongebob has had too many amazing moments to count. Everyone is quoting him all the time. And sometimes singing his signature “F.U.N.” song. I love all of Spongebobs episodes, but I don’t want to discriminate. But, I do have a few favorite episodes. Here is my Top 5 episodes list:

1. F.U.N.

2. Band Geeks

3. Hooky

4. Ripped Pants

5. The Camping Episode

My first favorite episode is “F.U.N.” It is the episode where Plankton and Spongebob become friends for a while. Spongebob tries to teach Plankton how to have fun. Plankton has trouble of course because he is evil, but after a while Plankton sincerely becomes friends with Spongebob and they have a great time. There is the “F.U.N.” song. Some lyrics are: F is for friends who do stuff together, U is for you and me, N is for anywhere or anytime at all down in the deep blue sea.” The song is easy to learn and very joyous.

My second favorite episode is “Band Geeks.” Squidward’s arch-enemy Squilliam Fanysom brags to him about his great marching band and how they are playing the Bubble Bowl. Squidwards says he has a band, though he doesn’t, and tells Squilliam how much better his band will be. Squidward panics, but then gathers a band of misfits, composed of Spongebob, Patrick, Mr. Krabs Sandy, Ms. Puff, Larry the Lobster, and pretty much every other character in the show. At first they are really bad, but in the end they pull it together and take Squilliams band’s place at the Bubble Bowl. They do an amazing half time show for a football game. Amazing episode.

My third favorite episode is “Hooky.” It is one of the earlier episodes. In this episode Spongebob and Patrick find what they think is an amusement park, but is really a bunch of hooks from fishermen way above. Patrick shows Spongebob how to jump on the hook, tug it a little, get yanked almost to the surface, then jump off and float gracefully back to the sea floor. If they were to be unable to jump off, there would be very dangerous consequences of course. Mr. Krabs warned Spongebob, but he couldn’t resist the temptation and kept on riding the hooks. Spongebob gets caught on a hook and is almost pulled away, but it turns out it was just Squidward and Mr. Krabs teaching him a lesson.

My fourth favorite episode is “Ripped Pants.” It was one of the first episodes and is really funny. Spongebob is hanging at Goo Lagoon and rips his pants. At first he is really embarrassed, but then he makes a joke out of it. But, he won’t stop joking about it and the jokes get old, fast. He is then rejected and called a loser and ignored. He is low for a while, then performs an inspirational song with all he other losers and is accepted again.

The last episode on my list is “The Camping Episode.” Spongebob and Patrick go camping in front of  their houses. Squidward sees he is missing out on the fun and comes to join. The night turns treacherous when they are stalked by a seabear, and Squidward is chased around for a while. The episode is really funny and amusing to watch.

There are many great episodes but these all have special places in my hearts. But, all episodes are amazing. Watch all the episodes and decide on your own favorites!

Spongebob was created by Stephen Hillenburg in 1984. He got the idea for Spongebob when teaching and studying marine biology at the Orange County Marine Institute.  But, then he started drawing and got into animation. He studied animation for a while then came up with the brilliant idea for Spongebob. When the show was first being created Stephen Hillenburg had Spongebob wearing a red hat and a slightly different outfit and name “Spongeboy”, but that name was already taken in another show, so he chose Spongebob. And, besides Sponebob is waaaaayyy cooler than Spongeboy. The pilot episode of Spongebob was first aired on May 1, 1999, it was “Help Wanted”/”Reef Blower”/”Tea at the Treedome.”. The series premiere was on July 17, 1999. The official first episode was ”Bubblestand”/”Ripped Pants.” (Each episode contains multiple episodes because they are short.) At first, the shows ratings suffered and it was not too popular, all though those some of those first episodes are the greatest episodes of all time (in my opinion, and also in the opinion of many others.)  In 2000, Spongebob aired on television in the United Kingdom. After the huge increase in popularity in the beginning of the second season, a huge merchandising campaign was created that is still around today. The Spongebob Squarepants movie was released in 2004 and was intended to be the series finale. There were multiple geust stars in the movie including Scarlett Johansson and David Hasselhoff. But, it was decided Spongebob would be continued with a fourth season. The fourth season went well and Nickelodeon approved a fifth season. In the fifth season there was a special TV movie called “Atlantis Squarepantis.”

The show is now it is seventh season and recently had its ten year anniversary on July 14, 2009. There was a big TV event called “The Ultimate Spongebob Sponge Bash” on Nickelodeon. It was 50 1/2 hours long and featured 11 new episodes. Soon after, a second TV movie was released called “Truth or Square”, featuring many guest stars like Will Ferrel and P!nk.

Time magazine named Spongebob Squarepants one of the greatest television shows of all time, I must agree. At the kids awards Spongebob won the Blimp Award for Favorite Cartoon in the years 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2009.  Out of the many Golden Reel Awards Spongebo won was in 2008 it aslo won the Golden Reel award for best sound editing. Spongebob also won the TCA award for Outstanding Achievement in Children’s Programming. Spongebob was also nominated for dozens of other awards.

Speaking of the history of Spongebob, in a few episodes Spongebob has traveled to different times. In one episode Sponegebob traveled to prehistoric times and discovered fire and fought over the flame in a hilarious ordeal with Patrick and Squidward. In another episode Spongebob traveled to Medival times and dueled a knight. And Spongebob even traveled to the future and saw the future Krusty Krab which was much shinier. But besides those episodes,  Spongebob is mostly in present day.

In most episodes, there is usually a problem that is resolved in the end. Though sometimes it is not. But, there is usually a moral to the story and sometimes the viewers learn a lesson, not that they need to, because it is such an awesome show. Spongebob will go far.

Hello readers,

I am a new blogger, in fact this is my first ever blog. It is all very new and confusing so please bare with me. First and foremost, let me give you some background info on myself. I watched Spongebob as long as I can remember. Though, it was first aired in 1999, and I was born in 1995, so I had a bleak first four years. I have many hobbies including water polo and reading and of course watching Spongebob! Spongebob is a favorite passtime of mine. Who doesn’t love to plunk down in front of the TV and watch a few episodes after a hard day at school.

In my blog, I will be writing all about Spongebob, Squarepants that is. If you have no idea at all who this mysterious sponge is tune in to channel 53 or Nickelodeon and watch a few episodes of the children’s show. There was also a Spongebob Squarepants movie that was in theaters and is now on DVD.  Spongebob Squarepants is a sea sponge who lives in a pineapple in Bikini Bottom. Spongebob has a pet sea snail named Gary, who meows. Spongebob works at the Krusty Krab where he grills the infamous Krabby Pattys- delicous hamburgers. His boss is Mr. Krabs a greedy, fat crab. Mr. Krabs has a daughter named Pearl who is a whale. The cashier at the Krusty Krab and also Spongebobs neighbor is Squidward Tentacles. He is a squid who is grumpy and plays the clarinet. He lives in what appears to be a giant tiki head made of stone. Spongebob’s best friend is Patrick Star, a chubby pink star fish who lives under rock. Another friend of his is Sandy, a Texan squirrel. Sandy is a very smart scientist. She lives in a dome on the ocean floor full of air. When she leaves her dome, she always wears a underwater space suit with a helmet of air. When Spongebob visits Sandy he must wear a helmet full of water. Some minor characters  are Larry the Lobster and Mrs. Puff his driving school teacher. Spongebob has never graduated driving school, so he gets around by foot.  Some of Spongebobs signature catch phrases include, “I’m ready!” and “Tartar sauce!” Spongebob is always happy and buoyant. He loves blowing bubbles and catching jellyfish.

What I think is important and special about Spongebob is that he enjoys the little things and he is happy. And it is fun to sit back, relax and enjoy some Spongebob. It is a simple show that kids and some really cool adults enjoy. There is usually some problem in each episode, but Spongebob always resolves it in the end. He is intelligent, sort of, and he always worries about other people and their feelings. He could be a role model, in some aspects, to children watching.

In my blog, I don’t want to be too specific.  I would like to write about Spongebob, everything about Spongebob, and maybe about similar shows in comparison (Spongebob would always win!) And maybe also about some current events in relation to Spongebob and Nickelodeon. I just want to keep things fresh. I would love comments and suggestions.
